OUR HISTORY

The partnership of Brian Baker and Barnes Ellis has its roots in a friendship formed when they were high-school classmates. After varied educational and career paths, they re-connected in 2002 to form Baker Ellis Asset Management LLC.

Brian C. Baker, CFA

An investment professional for nearly two decades, Brian earned his bachelor’s degree from UC California at Berkeley in 1987 and later was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA). He began his investment career as a registered representative of Bidwell & Co. Prior to co-founding Baker Ellis, he led proprietary trading and market-making operations for Wilson Davis and Co. He lives in Portland with his wife, Lisa, and their two young children. He is a member of the Portland Society of Financial Analysts.

Barnes C. Ellis, RIA

Barnes co-founded Baker Ellis after serving as a portfolio manager at Sutro & Co in Portland. Earlier, he was marketing director and vice president for Charter Investment Group. He is a registered investment advisor. Barnes earned a bachelor’s degree cum laude in 1987 from Harvard University, where he also was named a John Harvard Scholar. He returned to Portland to work as a staff writer and editor at The Oregonian newspaper, where he won many awards for his coverage of political and other issues and was named regional editor. He serves as treasurer and board member of Literary Arts. He is past president of the Harvard Club of Oregon, and a past member of boards including Friends of Chamber Music and the Oregon Public Affairs Network.
